Explorations in Medicine

Explore the fundamentals of healthcare as you step into the shoes of a medical student and investigate a handful of medical fields.

Take a patient history while considering the many skills needed to make an accurate and effective diagnosis. Evaluate the role of both prevention and treatment in working with patients to promote their health. Apply your newly-learned medical skills as you role-play simulated telemedicine consults as an EXPLO doctor. If you dream of going to medical school, solving the world’s medical mysteries, or improving healthcare across populations, this course is a great next step.

This course meets daily for 75 minutes.

In This Course You Will

  • Practice bedside manner and discover how doctors interact with patients

  • Explore specialities such as emergency medicine, pulmonology, and cardiology

  • Consider the obstacles doctors overcome to provide quality care

  • Collaborate with your fellow EXPLO Medical students

Required Materials

This course does not require specialized materials for in-class activities, however, students will have the opportunity to practice splinting as an extension to course time. A detailed list can be found here. Additionally, students should have access to basic supplies such as paper, pens, and post-it notes.

To take advantage of all this course has to offer, we ask that students have access to a desktop or laptop computer and a stable internet connection. A printer is recommended, but not required.
